About Eileen M.
My name is Eileen, and I am a credentialed California educator. I raised four children and put them all through college. I have taught thousands of elementary, middle, high school and college students in tutoring and classroom settings to develop their potential through lifelong learning skills. My belief is that every parent is their child’s first teacher, so I strive to understand the individual differences in each child with involved parental input. It does take a community to raise a child.
Please join Talentnook in educating the next generation of students for competence and efficiency in developing life skills and independence in learning.
Why Join the English Bridge Program?
6th graders transitioning from elementary to middle school are often ill-equipped in their understanding of the basics of English language arts.
Such a knowledge gap, if not attended at the 6th-grade level, can lead to weaker academic growth in a student’s coming years and even pose as an impediment during higher studies.
The Bridge Program measures a student’s current English language understanding through a thorough assessment process
When Talentnook Bridge proctors test incoming students, our bridge program comprehensively establishes baselines of where the child measures at different levels of language arts at a given academic level.
Total Assessment Fees: $50 (Includes Post Assessment Consultation and will be applied towards the program tuition fee if you enroll)
Incoming students will be pre-assessed on their English skills in the following categories:
STUDENT PRELIMINARY EVALUATION: THE SLOSSON TEST
Prior to enrolment to the program, the child will undergo the Slosson Test where they will follow directions, work with hand-eye coordination, listen and process skills. This test shall be used as the first benchmark to measure study skills preparedness for second-level thinking.
Reading comprehension is measured by oral reading passage followed by an assessment of inference, vocabulary, detail, and association text questions.
VOCABULARY ASSESSMENT: THE SYNONYM TEST
Vocabulary assessment is not only designed to help the child recognize sixth-grade sight words but also aids the child to understand the pronunciation and recognition of words that the child may have seen before through prior reading.
Writing exercises allow the student to organize and compose a twenty (20) minute short write-up. The student is evaluated on thesis formation, first, middle, and end consistency and word choice.
