Guide To Profile Setup
Lesson
Clearly describe your lesson here
a. What experience level do you teach?: Mention the level(s) for each talent you can and want to teach
b. Minimum/Maximum students: Be realistic in mentioning the minimum and the maximum number of students you can teach at a time based on the talent. We highly encourage group lessons as long as they are enriching and effective
c. Duration: We recommend 60 minutes for most lesson types with a few exceptions (such as 30 or 45 minutes sessions for Music are popular but not for Math or English)
d. Free Trial Class: Highly recommended. It provides that very critical initial confidence to the parent needed for a long term relationship
e. Experience: Your experience shown here is what you had mentioned earlier. Feel free to add/change any information you like.
Detailing your experience with a very strong opening statement is highly recommended. Information such as years learned and taught, levels and categories of students taught and strengths related to each talent is very visible and helpful. Remember, your experience is what will be highlighted to the parents on your public profile. So be true but be descriptive.
Note: The system had initially restricted you up to 3 talents but you can use the Add new Talent or Delete this Talent buttons at any time to take the respective action.
Lesson outline is one of the most important fields of your tutoring profile. Every parent looking for a great teacher for his/her child has certain criteria and lesson outline is often one of those. It is important for them to know the style and strategies adopted by the teacher in order to help their child excel. Here are a few things to keep in mind while drafting a good quality lesson outline:
a. Lesson outline should be detailed but meaningful
b. The parent should be able to foresee the child’s progress through the lesson outline
Essay Writing Beginner Level Lesson Outline
I would be happy to assist your child with any essay writing help they need. We would begin each session by reviewing their homework for the night or week depending on the age level. We would then read through the material, edit their essays, review their reading responses, study for vocabulary tests, or any literature tests that would require essay responses. For older students, I am happy to review their required materials as well as assist them with larger writing or creative projects.
I am flexible about how long these sessions run. They can be anywhere between an hour to two hours or even more should your child need it! On days when your child has finished their homework before seeing me, we will still review it. This is to ensure that we keep their grades up, while building their writing abilities. However, on days like this, I will use the remainder of our time together to review challenging parts of their curriculum. For example, creative and technical writing exercises. I would be happy to teach annotation practice or even simulate practice tests where students practice timed writing. Whatever your child needs to succeed, I will do my best to assist them.
By the end of the school year, I can promise your child will possess strong writing abilities, meeting or exceeding the requirements for their grade. Should your child surpass the English level for their grade, I would also help them get ahead and prepare for the following year. I am open to doing summer work for this subject as well.
c. Create a seperate lesson outline for each talent.
d. Just saying “the lesson will be customized based on student’s needs” is not enough. Customization is important but showing your own understanding of the subject and the measures driving such customization are valuable.
e. Keywords are important. For example:
(1) using words like vocabulary, grammar, sentence formation and correction for English.
(2) using words like notes, singing, rhythm, harmony will provide additional weightage to a music lesson.
Piano Beginner Level
I have to meet the prospective student first to decide the lesson plan based on their experience, age, and style of music they wish to learn. However, I will start off with the following for almost all beginners:
  • Ear training.
  • Scales.
  • Introduction to reading music.
  • Separate hands placement.
  • Rhythm recognition.
  • Singing (which is essential for any musician)
For more intermediate and advanced students I will incorporate:
  • Scales and arpeggios.
  • Sight singing.
  • Theory and harmony.
  • Classical piano repertoire.
  • Complex time signatures and rhythms.
f. Breaking the session duration into smaller pockets and assigning clear workflow to those pockets is very helpful in providing clarity to the parents.
Essay Writing Lesson Outline
Review reading homework: 15 mins Main Writing Activity: 30 mins
Discussion, Final Thoughts, and Preparation for Next Session: 15 mins
The session ends by connecting the themes and concepts covered to the next reading assignment.
Overall, a detailed, meaningful and focussed lesson outline is considered helpful towards a positive decision from the parents.
