For some students, they are well aware of what future career path they want to pursue. Other students are conflicted. It is okay to not know what you want to do with your life! Here are some tips you can follow to help decide which major you should pick in college.
Pursue your passions
Obviously, no one wants to work as something they do not like. Find something that you are passionate about, whether it’s helping people, technology, etc. Working in a field that you like will never feel boring and will always be exciting for you!
Explore your options
There are many online resources such as personality quizzes and career tests that can help you determine what field of study you would do best in depending on various factors. Although they may not be 100% accurate, it can open your eyes and highlight your strengths.
Do some research
If you know what career you want to pursue, research on the multiple steps to get you there. What major should you declare? Would you have to pursue a higher education after undergrad? Do I see myself working in this profession in the future? What is the pay like? How easy/hard will it be to get a job in that career field?
Talk to others
No one can guide you better than those who have got through the same process. Talk to alumni or current college students. Their advice will be the most up-to-date and will be able to help you explore your options.
Do not be alarmed if this is stressful for you. Even after picking a major in college, it is reported that 70% of students change majors at least once in their college career. The good news is that colleges understand that and can give you the flexibility you need to find what’s right for you! At the end of the day, it is all about how you want to build your life!
